Yes. In Victoria, any vehicle that has been recorded as a statutory write-off or repairable write-off must pass a VIV inspection before it can be re-registered. This law prevents stolen vehicles and dodgy Rebirthed cars from returning to our roads.

The physical inspection typically takes 1-2 hours, depending on vehicle condition. However, the full process including VicRoads processing can take a few days to a few weeks, depending on how quickly we receive documentation from previous insurers or repairers. You’ll need proof of ownership (registration papers or receipt), photo ID, and any available repair documentation or photos from the damage/repair process. If the vehicle was purchased written-off, bring the sales contract and previous owner details to speed up the verification.

Absolutely. We can conduct VIV inspections for vehicles written-off in other states that are being registered in Victoria. The process is similar, though we may need additional paperwork from the interstate authority where the vehicle was previously registered.
